Did you know that the famous musical Cats was actually based on a book? It was inspired by T.S. Eliot’s work Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, which was first published by Faber and Faber in 1939. We are lucky enough to have a first edition, second impression copy (also published in 1939) of this book for sale in our shop!
Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is a short poetry collection of fourteen whimsical poems about the lives of cats, and formed the inspiration for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats.
The edition that we are selling comes with its original dust jacket, with the iconic yellow and black design, which was sketched by Eliot himself! The spine of the jacket has some fading and there are signs of wear, but overall the book is in good condition. The jacket is also in a plastic sleeve to protect and preserve it.
Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is a timeless story, full of fun and felines, perfect for any poetry lovers or fans of the musical! It is a great collector’s piece, as it is a first edition, and a slice of iconic literary and cultural history. It is being sold for £125.
