British Fungi, by George Massee (with original dust jacket - scarce!)

For those who are interested in the kinds of fungi that live in the UK, and how to find them, this book is for you. The author, George Masse, described that the ‘primary object of this book is to enable the reader to determine the names of our indigenous mushrooms, toadstools, etc.’ – and with fantastic depth and detailed plates, that is exactly what this book does.

British Fungi was published in the early 20th century by George Routledge and Sons, Limited. This edition contains an extra chapter on lichens, and comes with its original dust jacket (which is rare for this period). Included are 40 coloured plates, drawn and coloured by Ivy Massee, as well as many other black and white photographs and illustrations.

The book has some slight rubbing and bumping on the edges and spine, but because of the scarce dust jacket, is in good condition. The dust jacket itself is slightly faded on the spine and has some wear and tear at the edges, but is a great addition for any collector. All of the coloured plates are included, and the pages have limited foxing.

Even with the incredible detail and depth of this book, the author assures the reader that his book goes beyond ‘a mere string of names.’ This book is perfect for those who are interested in learning about fungi and would like a detailed, engaging book to accompany and aid them. It is being sold for £80.

We have another edition of British Fungi without the dust jacket that we are selling for a cheaper price. Click here to find out more about it.
