This copy of British Fungi is a different edition to the other British Fungi book that we also have for sale in our shop. While this book doesn’t come with its dust jacket, it is still in good condition and has all of its original illustrations and plates. For those who are interested in the kinds of fungi that live in UK, and how to find them, this book is for you.

The author, George Masse, described that the ‘primary object of this book is to enable the reader to determine the names of our indigenous mushrooms, toadstools, etc.’ – and with fantastic depth and detailed plates, that is exactly what this book does.

This edition of British Fungi was published in 1911 by George Routledge and Sons, Limited. It contains an extra chapter on lichens, and includes 40 coloured plates by Ivy Massee, and 21 other ‘illustrations’, including diagrams, drawings and photographs.

The book has some slight bumping to the top and bottom of the spine, but is overall in pretty good condition. All of the coloured plates are included, and the pages have almost no foxing.

Even with the incredible detail and depth of this book, the author assures the reader that his book goes beyond ‘a mere string of names.’ It is perfect for those who are interested in learning about fungi and would like a detailed, engaging book to accompany and aid them. It is being sold for £40.
