The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien - Deluxe Edition

Originally published in 1937, The Hobbit (or There and Back Again) by J.R.R. Tolkien has enjoyed a nearly hundred-year, flourishing legacy. In 1976, following the success of the Lord of the Rings, a deluxe edition of The Hobbit was released by its original publishers: George Allen and Unwin. We are selling a second impression of this deluxe edition from 1979, perfect for any Tolkien fan or collector.

The book comes in a card box and, inside, is still wrapped in its original tissue paper. Included are 13 illustrations (including a frontispiece), all in colour, and two double-page maps at the front and the back.

These illustrations and maps are copies of the ones originally included in the first edition of The Hobbit, drawn by Tolkien himself, and for this edition, 8 have been coloured in by H. E. Riddett. Everything is printed on high-end, glossy paper, and the edges of the book have been speckled with turquoise colouring.

The box shows some signs of wear and has been bumped on the edges, but the book inside, with its black buckram cloth binding and red, gold and white foiled embossing, is in great condition.

This deluxe copy of The Hobbit is ideal for any Tolkien fan wanting to add something exclusive and collectable to their shelf that is in great condition and won’t break the bank. It is being sold for £325.
