Something About Cats, and Other Pieces is the final collection of miscellaneous writings by the great H.P. Lovecraft, the father of cosmic horror. The volume contains a dozen poems, the title essay, pieces from the little-known magazine The Conservative, notes relating to some of his popular stories, and several stories to which Lovecraft also contributed.
The collection begins with a prefatory note by August Derleth, the collector of these pieces and a close friend and collaborator of Lovecraft. Derleth was also the founder of Arkham House, which was established to preserve Lovecraft’s literary legacy. This edition is a testament to the endurance of the Lovecraftian universe and makes an excellent addition to the library of any student, collector or admirer of his macabre and cosmic-horror writing.
This is a first edition, published in 1949, as a hardback with its original dust jacket. Both the book and dust jacket remain in excellent condition. This publication contains two double-sided black and white photographic plates, and several B&W reproductions of Lovecraft’s creative notes. A photographic frontispiece depicts a young Lovecraft.
Lovecraft’s influence on American literature and the development of the macabre and cosmic-horror genres is now firmly established. His distinct vision has continued to grow in its literary impact long after his death. Early editions such as this remain highly desirable to collectors and enthusiasts.
