2 min read

A charming early twentieth-century collection of three poetry booklets published by De La More Press in 1902, featuring works by three eminent figures of the English Romantic movement: Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley.

The collection comprises Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner; Keats’s Odes; and Shelley’s The Cloud, To a Skylark and Ode to the West Wind. Together, these works represent some of the most celebrated poetry of the Romantic period, renowned for its imaginative richness, lyrical beauty and engagement with nature and the sublime.

The three booklets are housed in their original blue decorative presentation box, which features age-related discolouration and wear to the hinges. A small red cloth remains present.

Each booklet retains its original paper covers, with a distinctive colour scheme identifying the individual volumes. The covers are decorated in a consistent style, featuring bold black ornamental borders and titles printed in red. Shelley’s collection is presented in blue, Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in beige, and Keats’s Odes in yellow-beige. The simplistic and decorative typography and cover colours lend the collection considerable period charm.

The presentation box displays age-related discolouration and some wear to the hinges, consistent with its age and use.

The individual booklets retain their original paper art bindings. Keats’s Odes displays visible marking and staining to both the front and rear covers. Despite these exterior imperfections, the booklets retain an attractive vintage appearance.

Internally, the bindings remain secure, and the pages are generally bright and clean, with no apparent marking observed. Overall, the collection presents well, retaining its original covers, decorative presentation box and distinctive early twentieth-century character.

An appealing boxed collection of early twentieth-century poetry booklets, bringing together three major Romantic poets in an attractive period presentation. This collection would be ideal for collectors of antiquarian literature or decorative book bindings, and editions of classic English poetry.

The set is being sold for £30.
