Harry Potter, the now multi-billion dollar franchise, famously had a few false starts, with J.K. Rowling’s manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone being rejected numerous times before Bloomsbury accepted it.
But soon after, fans worldwide were invested in the boy wizard Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and in 1998, only a year after the first book in the Harry Potter series was published, J.K. Rowling released Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Our copy is a hardback, deluxe, UK edition from 1999, published by Bloomsbury, and it has been signed by JK Rowling. The first flyleaf in the front of the book has an official Bloomsbury Children’s Books sticker which has Rowling’s signature on it. There is a residue of a glue on the top corner of the sticker, but it does not obscure or ruin the signature in any way.
The book has good provenance as it was from a former Director of Penguin International who was given it by a school friend who was a Manager at Bloomsbury.
The outside is made with a blue cloth cover, with gold gilt titling, a green ribbon bookmark, and golden sprayed edges. There is some rubbing on the edge of the spine which indicates some use, but doesn’t ruin the overall appearance of the book. It is being sold for £1,500.
