Here are a few highlights of some of the other-worldly books that we have in our shop…
‘War of the Worlds’ by H.G. Wells is a cornerstone of science fiction, dystopian and fin-de-siècle literature. Set in the south of England, specifically in Woking, Surrey and moving up to London, this book cuts very close to home. The edition that we have in our shop is a hardback published by the Folio Society in 2017, and is filled with full-page colour illustrations by Grahame Baker-Smith: it’s a collectable copy for all fans of sci-fi or Wells himself. It is being sold for £60.
‘Titus Groan’ is contended as being a true fantasy novel, but with its intricate world-building and mysterious characters, it’s a brilliant fantastical piece of gothic fiction. Our hardback copy was published by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1968, with an introduction by Anthony Burgess and black and white illustrations from the author, Mervyn Peake, which weren’t included in the first edition. It is being sold for £15.
Jules Verne is perhaps best known for his works like ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ or ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’, but our copy of ‘Around the Moon’ is for all the space-travel sci-fi fans. It’s a collector’s edition in hardback, bound in genuine leather, from The Easton Press in Conneticut, US, with an introduction by director James Gunn. Included are full-page colour illustrations by Robert Shore, drawing on the novel’s sense of adventure, observation, wonder, and humorous interludes. It is being sold for £60.
As part of our paperback series, we have books like ‘The Wizard of Earthsea’ by Ursula K. Le Guin, the ‘Foundation’s Edge’ by Isaac Azimov, multiple works by Arthur C. Clarke (writer of 2001: Space Odyssey) and many, many more!
This is only a highlight of the hundreds of fantasy and sci-fi books that we have in stock. Visit our page about our Horror Collection for similar authors and books that might not be featured here.
