Jules Verne is perhaps best known for his works like Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea or Around the World in Eighty Days, but our copy of his 1869 science fiction novel Around the Moon is perfect for any Verne or space-travel fans.
The edition that we are selling in our shop is a collector’s hardback edition from 1988, published by The Easton Press in Connecticut, USA. The book comes with a bookplate sticker, a loose page on the collector's notes and an introduction written by science fiction author James Gunn (not to be confused with the director!). Around the Moon is actually the resolution to Verne's earlier work, From the Earth to the Moon.
Included in the book are seventeen full-page colour illustrations by Robert Shore, drawing on the novel’s sense of adventure, observation, wonder and humorous interludes. Gunn, in his introduction, describes ‘the mid-19th century [as] an era enraptured by technology and exploration’ and this is evident in Verne’s work.
An iconic writer, a deluxe binding and an epic story in space, this book is a must-have addition to any sci-fi fan’s shelf. It is being sold for £60.
