A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle

In 1887, in Mrs Beeton’s Christmas Annual, the world was introduced to Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson for the first time. A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was reprinted many times in subsequent years – including a 1901 edition, which we have for sale in our shop.

This edition was published by Ward, Lock and Co. and contains over forty black and white illustrations by George Hutchinson scattered throughout the pages, bringing the adventures of the fictional detective and his loyal companion to life.

The book itself is bound in red cloth binding, with golden titling and a textured design on the spine and front board. There is some foxing to the first few pages, and the spine is slightly faded and rubbed, but this does not affect the readability nor the structure of the book.

For any Sherlock Holmes fan, this edition of A Study in Scarlet is a great collectable book that isn’t going to break the bank – perfect to read or display on a shelf. It is being sold for £100.
