Horae Subsecivae by John Brown

Horae Subsecivae is a collection of essays, biographical sketches and stories by Scottish physician and writer John Brown. Covering subjects ranging from medical history and art to rural life and biography, the book includes celebrated essays such as ''Our Dogs'', ''Rab and His Friends'' and ''Notes On Art''.
This edition was published by Oxford University Press as part of its World’s Classics series and includes an introduction by Austin Dobson. The quarter-vellum binding contrasts beautifully with the muted crimson cloth boards, while the spine features delicate, intricate gilt floral tooling reminiscent of Art Nouveau and Edwardian book design. The gilt top edge adds a further touch of luxury to the binding.
The binding is tight and secure, with little sign of wear to the pages, which remain bright and clean.
Overall, this is an excellent example of an attractive Oxford World’s Classics binding and would make a handsome addition to the shelves of any Oxford World’s Classics collector or enthusiast of fine bookbinding.
This book is being sold for £40.
